Yorkshire Day

1st of August marks “Yorkshire Day” Being a fellow born & bred Yorkshireman, I feel it deserves a mention on my website. After all the majority of my images are taken in Yorkshire.

Lets take you on my latest journey to Twistleton Scar Top

I got to finish work slightly early and thought, hey i am going to Twistelton! so off I went…….

I set off from my home in Castleford, I wont bore you too much with the directions to Twistleton but it was A1 – A659 – A65. See the map below for the full route.

Parking Up

Drive slightly past the Beezley Falls sign and there is a little grass lay-by which I parked on. If you go at a busy time it may be full, there is room for approximately 3-4 cars.

The Hike to The Tops

The Hike

From parking there walk to the Beezley Falls sign and to the right you will see a route saying Ingelton Falls Walk. Take this path, you will go through a small kissing gate and approach a style that has a small wooden gate. Once you have gone through this, follow the path past the farm and through the next gate.
Carry on walking up the track and you will see a smaller pathway turn off the track to the right of you. Take this path and you will start the climb up to the tops. It is quite steep and I would recommend some good hiking boots.

On Twistleton Scar Top

Getting to the top is hard work (for a big lad like me anyway) but it was really worth it. The views are amazing and there are lots of interesting trees which are windswept and have great shapes to them.

Time for the Camera

I had a scout around the area and found some areas of interest. My main objective was to photograph a weathered tree and also have some cloud movement behind too. I got just that along with the added bonus of ………… A Sunset.
I had previously looked at the sunset times on the Photographer’s Ephemeris so I already knew where the sun would be at what time.  I had no idea that I would be lucky enough to get the sunsetting and also the sun directly behind the tree I wanted to photograph.

The final result is outstanding and could well be one of my best images yet. I will let you decide that one.

I hope you like the images for Yorkshire Day
